Leave The Light On In Heaven (Cause I'm Coming Home Late)

from The Hits 1995 - 2012 by Ryan McReynolds

about

Uncle Gary McReynolds wrote this song in 1995, the song is about his life experiences and the title stems from when he thought about killing himself but then decided not to and said to himself "Leave the light on in Heaven, cause I'm coming home late."

He wrote it for another nephew of his (one of my cousins) to record and it was intended to be a country song but I was permitted to record my own version and added an alternative rock twist to it.

lyrics

Leave the light on in heaven I know i'll be there
I've spent my life sinnin but lately I swear
I've been doing my best to make my amends
Been trying to show you i've changed lives again

Leave the light on in heaven, im coming home late
I've tamed my wild ways put on a new face
I knew I would die if I kept up this fate
So leave the light on in heaven cause im coming home late

I've been doin my drinkin been running around
Telling my life's lies all over the town
I tried to explain why I went through this phase
But nothing made sense in a dull drunken haze

And im making assesments of all my life's goals
I look at my failures and ponder the course
I've tried to do something to keep my life straight
So leave the light on in heaven cause im coming home late

leave the light on in heaven, cause im coming home late
I've changed my wild ways put on a new face
I knew I would die if I kept up this fate
So leave the light on in heaven cause im coming

I'm coming home late
